Dentistry Faculty awarded Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) / Nova Scotia Health Research Foundation (NSHRF) Regional Partnership Grant.

Dr. Debora Matthews (Dental Clinical Sciences) and Dr. Joanne Clovis (Dental Hygiene), co-Principal Applicants, along with co-applicants Dr. Mark Filiaggi (Applied Oral Sciences), Dr. Mary McNally (Dental Clinical Sciences), Dr. Susan Kirkland (Community Health and Epidemiology), Dr. Paul Alison (Faculty of Dentistry, McGill University) and Dr. Herenia Lawrence (Faculty of Dentistry, University of Toronto), were awarded a Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) / Nova Scotia Health Research Foundation (NSHRF) Regional Partnership Grant for the project Changing Demographics: The Oral Health of Our Aging Population. The grant award of $280,701 over a 3-year period includes matching partnership funding from the Office of the Chief Dental Officer, Health Canada.

This project will seek to measure clinical and self-reported oral health status of older adults (the so-called "baby-boomers" together with seniors) to determine utilization of oral health services, the impact of oral health on quality of life, and report on treatment needs in this population.
