First year dental students at Dalhousie's Faculty of Dentistry were
welcomed into the Dental profession at a special ceremony on Tuesday,
October 7. Witnessed by family members, friends, faculty and staff the
Class of 2012 were presented their White Coats as a symbol of their
commitment to the rights and responsibilities enjoyed by those within
the dental profession.
Over 120 guests attended the second
annual White Coat Ceremony. The guests were addressed by Dr. Ron
Bannerman, Assistant Dean, Academic Affairs, Dr. Tom Boran, Dean and
Dr. John Rooney from the Atlantic Section of the American College of
Dentists. Each speaker stressed the importance of professionalism in
the role of both the dental student and the dental practitioner. The
students were presented their coats by Dr. Blaine Cleghorn, Clinic
Director, and asked to sign the Student Code of Professional Conduct by
Dr. Joseph Murphy, Assistant Dean, Student Affairs.
After the
formal event, students and their guests enjoyed a cocktail reception
and a chance to socialize with members of faculty and administration of
the Faculty of Dentistry.
The White Coat Ceremony commenced in
2008. The American College of Dentists, Atlantic Section has generously
sponsored this event with the Office of Alumni Affairs, Faculty of
Dentistry.
