Dental Hygiene: Population Health Literacy in the Mall

For many years, as part of the Population Health assignment in health literacy, second year Dental Hygiene students have created table-top mall displays to provide oral health messages directed to specific age groups.  The purpose is to provide key oral health messages for the public. Students translate the knowledge imparted through the scientific message of their table clinic to a message that is appropriate for the general public.

This activity is timed to support Oral Health Month (April) in Canada.  This year 5 displays were presented on April 18 and one on April 19.  Students track the ‘lookers’ and the ‘talkers’ to determine interest in the display and communication with individuals.

This year students presented in the Sunnyside Bedford Mall, Bedford Place Mall, Halifax Shopping Center, Micmac Mall, and Park Lane.
