On Friday, November 19th, Dentistry faculty, staff and friends joined students at their weekly Live @ 5 pub night for a special and delicious fundraiser.
A brave group of 11 volunteered their faces, while attendees bid on who they wanted to see receive a whipped cream pie to the face. The top four contestants who received the highest bids students Ian Dugas & John Rector, Dr. Carl McDermott from the Department of Clinical Sciences, and Cindy Murphy from the custodial staff were the victims, while Dentistry Dean Dr. Thomas Boran served as the special celebrity target, earning $115 in a bidding war between a pair of students looking to win the right to throw the pie at Dr. Boran. In the end, students Curtis White and Sarah Foley shared the honour but not before Dr. Boran promised to not hold it against them!
In total, the event raised nearly $400, which went towards their For The Health Of It an annual Health Professions students fundraising campaign and variety show.
This year, funds raised through For The Health Of It will support the Provincial Autism Centre. The show will be held at 7:00 pm on Saturday, November 27 at the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium. Tickets are $15 in advance, or $18 at the door. For more information, please contact s.orser@dal.ca.
