Dr. Wayne Garland, Assistant Professor, Head of the Division of Endodontics, has been awarded a Dalhousie Student Union Teaching Award. This is the third year for the DSU Teaching Awards, unique in that students nominate their teachers and those nominations are in turn reviewed by other students. Criteria for the awards include whether or not the instructor:

· Stimulates and challenges students’ intellectual capacity
· Skillfully communicates the course material to students
· Shows mastery of and enthusiasm for the subject area.
· Is approachable and highly accessible to students.
· Influences development of students’ intellectual and critical skills
· Does anything else you feel makes the instructor an outstanding educator.

Students who nominated Dr. Garland said " I personally chose Dr. Garland because I find him to be a very sincere and caring professor. His ability to inspire our class to pay close attention to the small details in the preperations that we do in the clinic makes him stand out as a teacher. He always comes extremely well prepared to class by bringing all the teaching tools necessary to give real-life demonstrations of what we are doing in pre-clinical. Also, Dr. Garland always takes the time to properly explain the theory behind the practices that we use in a clinical setting. Dr. Garland truly is a wonderful professor. He is an asset to the school with the great work that he does. He is an asset to the learning process of his students, and he is an asset to the community as it is teachers like him who play a great part in the development of the future's dentists".
