Dr. Deborah Matthews, Head of the Division of Periodontics at Dalhousie University's Faculty of Dentistry, was recently appointed to the position of Councillor-at-Large for the Canadian Association of Dental Research (CADR), which is the Canadian branch of the International Association of Dental Research (IADR). The CADR is a body representing oral health researchers from across the country. There are currently about 300 members of the CADR. In keeping with the Mission Statement of the IADR, the CADR serves to: Advance research and increase knowledge for the improvement of oral health worldwide. Expand and further develop the Association's partnership with national and international dental associations, industry, health agencies, and scientific and educational professional organizations. Support and represent the oral health research community. Facilitate the communication and application of research findings. In her position as Councillor-at-Large, Dr. Matthews is required to attend IADR meetings, to participate actively in the discussions and vote at Council meetings. In addition, she will be involved with the organization of the 2008 IADR meeting, which is to be held in Canada. This position will provide her with the opportunity to network and develop collegial relationships with oral health researchers from around the world. Dr. Matthews' position will ultimately be of great benefit to Dalhousie's Faculty of Dentistry since it will build bridges with other eminent researchers and research institutions worldwide. |
