BROGAN, Dr. Harold William, D.D.S., M.Ed., C.D., O.M.M.

BROGAN, Dr. Harold William, D.D.S., M.Ed., C.D., O.M.M. - 70, Dartmouth, passed
away suddenly on August 2, 2006. Born in Minto, N.B., he was a son of the late
Elizabeth (Ferguson) and Basil Brogan. He is survived by his wife of 47 years,
Mary Elizabeth (Retson), and their children, Charles Robert, Aurora, Ont.;
William Retson "Jake", Bedford; Sean David, Dartmouth, and their wives, Wendy
Maureen (Conrad), Glynis Kerry (Thomas) and Jill Annette (MacAlpine); and
grandchildren, Laura, Holly, Grace, Eric, William, Scott, and Anna. He was
predeceased by brother, Bryden, and is survived by brother, Earl, and sister,
Dawn Marie. Graduating from Acadia and Dalhousie with his Doctorate of
Dentistry, he went on to a distinguished 39 year military career, retiring as
Colonel. Until his passing he continued his dental career as a professor at
Dalhousie. He was very active in community and humanitarian affairs including
St. John Ambulance, Halifax Airport Greeters, immigrant resettlement, minor
hockey and Scouts Canada. He was an avid sports enthusiast including hockey,
skiing, golf and cycling, and enjoyed winters in Arizona. For all his
accomplishments, we will remember him best as a devoted husband, father and
grandfather. We will miss him more than we can say. Cremation has taken place
under the direction of Cole Harbour Funeral Home and Crematorium. There will be
no family visitation. Memorial service will be held Saturday, August 5, at 2
p.m. in Stairs Memorial United Church, Hester Street, Dartmouth. In lieu of
flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.
