How to Apply - D.D.S. Qualifying Program Applicants

Application deadline:  September 1 for admission in the following April

Applicants must apply using the on-line application: http://www.registrar.dal.ca/prospective/lawmeddent.html

A $70.00 application fee is required.

Supporting documentation: (deadline for submission is October 1)
  1. A copy of the dental graduate degree/certificate or equivalent (notarized copy NOT required)
  2. University transcript and, if available, calendar course descriptions indicating courses completed in the dental degree/certificate
  3. Results of English language proficiency testing
  4. Results of NDEB Assessment of Fundamental Knowledge examination
  5. A resume (pdf of resume format available on application website)

Re-applicants:  Applicants must submit a new application form and fee every year.
Supporting documentation is held in the Admissions Office, Faculty of Dentistry for one year; therefore, re-applicants for the next year need only submit a new application form, fee, and any updated documentation.

All received applications are acknowledged in writing, and applicants are provided with information on the assessment process.

The assessment process includes two phases:
Phase One consists of an evaluation of the applicant’s documentation, and results in the selection of a ‘short list’ (approximately 30-40 applicants in past years) for further evaluation.
Phase Two consists of a one-day assessment at the Faculty of Dentistry, during which a personal interview and written essay will evaluate competency in spoken and written English language.  A pre-clinical assessment will evaluate basic dental skills.
Applicants selected for Phase Two Assessment will be required to provide their original dental degree/certificate and university transcripts, as well as Canadian citizenship or permanent residency status on the day of the assessment.

The earliest date by which applicants are notified of selection decisions is November 1 and the latest date of notification is January 1.

A waiting list of qualified candidates is established for each entering class and applicants may be selected from the waiting list up to the end of the first week of classes (April).

Applicants who failed to gain admission in earlier years, or who were placed on the waiting list in an earlier year, are not given preference for admission.
