Diploma in Dental Hygiene

The two-year Diploma in Dental Hygiene was established at the Faculty of Dentistry in 1961. The program provides an education that is current, dynamic, scientific and professional, in a learning environment that is positive and student-centered. Small-group and case-based learning encourages active student involvement in experiential learning. The dental building serves as the principle clinical, didactic teaching and research base of the Faculty, including session on mindfulness. Departments of the Medical Faculty, in the adjacent building, teach medical science courses. Students attend extra-mural rotations at a variety of sites, including nearby regional hospitals, Faculty-operated community-based clinics, seniors community facilities, dental specialty clinics, a military clinic and a northern Newfoundland & Labrador clinic operated by the Grenfell Dental Service.

The program is a leader in the development, design and delivery of high quality dental hygiene education, balancing knowledge and skills. The program enables students to meet the challenges of a new era by providing diverse opportunities.
