The Dean's Office offers on an annual basis, with some support from Alumni Funds, paid summer research positions. These Faculty-funded positions are in addition to positions that may be available through the extramural funding agencies such as CIHR.
The Summer Student Research Program provides opportunities for students to participate in research projects being conducted by members of the Faculty of Dentistry. Students who are confident that health sciences research will be part of their professional careers as well as those who wish to consider that possibility or to broaden their perspectives, can gain valuable experience in the design, execution and evaluation of a research project. For those who have come into the Faculty with prior research experience, there is the potential to engage more directly in projects of particular relevance to oral health and related issues.
In addition to providing gainful employment, this program offers students a challenging and supportive environment in which to explore and develop an oral health research component to their professional training. As part of this program, students have an opportunity to participate periodically in lunchtime interprofessional research information and skills workshops that serve as well to connect students to the broader health sciences research community. A culmination of this experience is the Health Sciences Research Day involving the Faculties of Dentistry, Health Professions and Medicine that takes place in February of the following year. It is an expectation of this program that all summer research students present the results of their work in poster format on this day.
Applications are now being accepted. A more detailed program description is available, as well as a list of projects offered.
