Welcome to the inaugural online issue of the Dalhousie Dentistry Current — a newsletter for alumni, faculty, staff and friends of the Faculty of Dentistry.
In addition to the Alumni Anchor, which you likely receive in the mail every Fall, The Current is intended to keep you apprised of the goings-on with our alumni, faculty and students, in a more timely manner — hence the name!
We hope to keep you informed of the latest Faculy of Dentistry news and upcoming events every two to three months, and welcome your comments. Do you have a story to share, or is there something that you would like to hear more about? Or, did you not receive your copy of the Alumni Anchor? Send us an email and let us know!

Access to Care:
The theme of the 2010-11 issue of the Alumni Anchor was Access to Care, and our faculty, students, and alumni continued their efforts throughout the Fall. Take a look at our involvement in the Halifax Connects Project, and stay tuned for more stories on our latest outreach initiatives!
Research Update:
Dr. Ed. Ghiabi, Assistant Professor with the Department of Dental Clinical Sciences, is leading the first study of the oral health of immigrants and refugees in Nova Scotia. Read more...
Student News
Dentistry Winter Ball:
Alumni are invited to join students, faculty and staff at the annual Winter Ball on Saturday, January 15th at Casino Nova Scotia in Halifax. This annual celebration of the season includes a dinner, dance, and great door prizes! Tickets ($60) are limited - email the organizers to get yours today!
Prosthodontic Olympics:
On January 31, our students will team up for their annual Olympic-style competition in five engaging, entertaining and educational dental challenges. Read more...
Table Clinics:
Our annual Table Clinic Presentations are coming up on February 11th. We are currently looking for Table Clinic judges, and one student is looking for participants who have not yet completed her short survey (the password is dental) on the establishment of a dental home (i.e. family dentist) for children in Nova Scotia. Email us for details.
Alumni News
In November and December, Dentistry Dean Dr. Thomas Boran, Development Officer Jen Laurette and Alumni Officer Jon Bruhm hosted a series of alumni events in Fredericton, Moncton, Ottawa, St. John's (NL), Saint John (NB), Sydney and Toronto.
